Olivier Barrette VS Hurricane Earl

This post is not about performance surfing. It's about dedication, love and passion.

In this Gotsurf video, french Canadian Olivier Barrette-Laperrière decided to drive 13 hours from Montreal to surf 3 days while Hurricane Earl hitted the coast of Nova-Scotia.

Trees was getting rip apart by the 100 km/h wind, electricity was shut down and waves was stormy-huge! But the surf after the storm worth the whole drive & other hassles. Friends David Boisvert (aka Greenwood), Martin Guay (aka Guava) and Guy Drapeau joined in the trip. Gotsurf's filmmaker Marc-André Laurin was there to capture the best moments. Timing was perfect.

What is amazing in this video is the level of surfing coming from these guys... considering they live in Quebec (except for Guy who moves to NS last year) and the nearest shore is five hours away on the coast of New Hampshire in the USA! The (too much) popular Montreal standing wave is their local spot... and they do not surf the ocean on a steady basis. This is pure dedication!

Enjoy the show!

Living far away from the ocean, Olivier Barrette-Laperrière is certainly one the most talented landlocked surfer in Canada. He lives in Montreal (Quebec) and he works as a physical education teacher at high school level. He surfs hyper-actively the river standing waves that Montreal is well-know for. You will see him on Gotsurf pushing the boundaries of performance and exploration in many different rivers standing waves and lakes... without forgetting that he learned surfing at a very young age in North Carolina, so his heart is with the waves of the ocean so you will also see him in many trips to the ocean with the other members of the collective.
