What the heck!?!
Bananas Sundae + Quebec + surfing = a very strange mix!
Well, that's exactly what the founder Martin Guay (aka Guava) wanted to create as a reaction! He wants to bring back the word FUN into surfing and he absolutely wants you to push your limits at the same time.

The Banana Sundae Classic is the first known river surf contest in Canada. The contest is always held on Sunday as the tradition commands. Last August was it's third edition and it's made possible simply by the involvement of a few dedicated individuals!

The surfers judge the other surfers among themselves. So nobody can complaint about the judging criteria! It's all about being a 100% democratic. No major sponsors... no major media noises either to avoid bringing more people to the already very crowded spot. The actual sponsors offer support to the community without asking for major visibility. It's a grassroots event for the locals hot-doggers!

The wave is basically a water ramp where you can try over and over new manoeuvres and perfect your style for wherever you surf, either on river static wave or in real ocean waves. But this wave also has a dark side! It's just very easy to comfortably park yourself in there and ride it without pushing your own limits. “Everybody should try to push harder so this sport can evolve” says: Martin Guava and partner in crime Olivier Barrette-Laperrière.

*Surfer - Olivier Barette, ripping it... as usual.
It's good to see the community getting organize by themselves and bring the all river surf movement moving forward.
