"Three months in Peru and Ecuador and I have gained knowledge in parts of my brain and lost more then i knew. It feels like my brain has began to deteriorate slowly. Perhaps this is because of the element of living on a budget, a weathered life of rough sleep patterns, relentless deep fried food, diarrhea, and vomiting, and being haggled, and pushed around by locals. Half the trip I sound miserable. You get dropped out of a plain to some 3rd world, cut throat country you've only heard about and of which most of your sources are incorrect. Its once you move foreword you realize how beautiful and ridiculous South America is. The bad times stick out but are best to look back on and shake your head at. Sometimes a better laugh then the good times. I guess the biggest part was thinking it was going to be purely a surf trip and it wasn't. When you don't get what your looking for it fucking sucks, but when you receive something greater then expected that's where its at. Like nine foot swell peeling right, with a sunset and solo surf with your bros, that's when it's all worth while. That's when your stoked.
Surf Sex and Zen. An honest outlook on a surf trip to SA with Rob Mcleod, Hans Aschim & Alex Guiry"
* Words by Alex Guiry
Alex Guiry wrote to us recently to tell the story of his surf trip to South-America. It end up to be much more then just a “surf trip”. Alex documented the travels of 3 average Canadian surfers. The result is artsy and beautiful.
His work from this trip will be displayed in Emily Carr University gallery in Vancouver on March 21th 2011.
